Design of a contemporary kitchen integrated into traditional Mallorcan architecture.

Located in the surroundings of Manacor, this kitchen is set within an old stone house, where the intervention seeks to enhance the existing architecture through a contemporary and context-sensitive approach.

The project preserves and highlights the original surface of the main wall, leaving the stone exposed and repointed with cement mortar, thereby reinforcing the material presence and character of the space. At the same time, the former passage between rooms is reinterpreted through the integration of a built-in pantry cupboard within an opening framed by marés stone blocks, recovering the constructive memory of the house.

The selection of materials reflects a desire to balance tradition and contemporaneity. The cabinetry is executed in knot-free natural oak, bringing a uniform and refined texture, while the light-toned microcement countertop introduces a continuous surface that subtly contrasts with the roughness of the stone.

The ensemble is completed with a carefully curated selection of furniture, highlighted by Zara Home chairs designed by Vincent Van Duysen, reinforcing the dialogue between craftsmanship and contemporary design. The result is a kitchen that transcends its function to become a central space, rooted in its context and conceived for a slower, more connected way of living.
