CASA SA MARINETA

Interior design of a rustic house in the Sa Marineta area, near Porto Cristo. The project is organised through clear, regular volumes, with the exception of the living room volume, rotated 45º relative to the rest. This gesture creates a direct relationship with the access to the plot and is reinforced by a horizontal opening with pillars that frames the view and gives identity to the home.

Outside, the house integrates into the landscape through an austere and honest material palette, combining stone and light-toned surfaces. The mirror-like pool and the porch shape a calm transitional space between interior and exterior, designed for a slower, more connected way of living.

Inside, the project draws on the Japanese concept of Wabi-sabi, embracing the beauty of imperfection and the passage of time. Lime mortar renders reveal the marks of the drying process, creating subtle textures in grey tones. Exposed lintels—of wood and concrete—reinforce the constructive character of the space, while in most rooms, exposed pine timber beams and traditional Mallorcan bovedillas bring rhythm, texture, and a clear connection to local building traditions.

The grey Zarci stone flooring unifies the interior spaces, bringing continuity and sobriety. The living room, set within the rotated volume, becomes the heart of the house, centred around a large fireplace that organises the space. The dining area, spacious and bright, is defined by a large wooden table accompanied by Wishbone chairs, reinforcing the dialogue between tradition and contemporary design.

The staircase, resolved with stone treads, is slightly detached from the wall through a recessed joint, adding visual lightness, while the built-in balustrade maintains the material coherence of the whole. In the bedrooms, oak furniture brings warmth and naturalness. In the bathrooms, walls finished in microcement in the same tone as the lime render, together with built-in furniture in travertine stone, complete a serene and timeless atmosphere.
